Installation Best Practices

* Always install SS in different drive.
* Don't install in domain controller
* Don't install reporting, analysis etc i.e which are   not required.
* For edition change i.e standard to enterprise run the   setup from command prompt as follows.
 d:\sql2008\setup SKUUPGRADE=1
  when it prompt for instance name provide the existing   name.
* We can install and configure only the following   editions of SS in production box
 * Enterprise edition
 * Standard   ,,
 * Workgroup  ,,
* Document the installation process clearly.
* We can install SS from command prompt using   configuration.ini file also which avoids to go   through one by one step of GUI wizard and presence of   DBA at the time of installation.
